Index Cards
The Autonomous School, run by volunteers, is a place for self-determined and self-organized learning. The students who came to see the the exhibition at CentrePasquArt would have arrived in Switzerland only recently, and so were busy familiarising themselves with their new environment and the German language. At the gallery they spent time in front of the artworks, finding words for what they saw. A set of index cards evolved out of this workshop, with a vocabulary in German, French, Persian, English and Tigrinya, suggesting multifarious interpretations of the works on display.
“Zeitketten” (Time chains)
Students were invited to Susan Morris’ exhibition at CentrePasquArt to reflect on the notion of time, their daily schedule and routine. They tried to recall their past 24 hours and chose a different colour bead for each type of activity they spent time with. What evolved was a portrait of the whole group out of the individual ‘time chains’ by every student.
Other workshops explored automatic drawing by generating ‘seismographs’.
